Mon, Dec 23, 2013, 12:49 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 22, Colombo: National Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremasinghe has proposed the name of Economist and UNP parliamentarian, Dr. Harsha de Silva to head the party at the Western Provincial Council poll.

The Western Provincial Council and Southern Provincial Council are expected to be dissolved later this month and the polls are likely to be held in March next year.

The National Leader is to also propose a name to lead the party at the Southern Provincial Council to the Leadership Council.

The UNP is currently engaged in preparing the candidates' lists for the two provincial councils and party sources say that many party organizers will contest at the forthcoming provincial council polls.
