* Fire at Sri Lanka Education Ministry brought under control

Dec 20, Colombo: A fire erupted at a building that houses Sri Lanka's Ministry of Education today has been brought under control, the police said.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana told local media a fire erupted at Isurupaya, in Battaramulla early this morning around 7 a.m. and it was brought under control by the firefighters at around 8 a.m.

The fire had reportedly erupted in the Pension Division on the 4th floor of the building.

It is believed a mechanical failure of a faulty air conditioning unit was responsible for the fire. No one was hurt in the fire, the police spokesman said.

The damages to the Ministry have not been assessed yet.
