* Sri Lankan parliament to vote on the third reading of the 2014 Budget today

Dec 20, Colombo: The parliament of Sri Lanka will take the vote today (20) on the third reading of the 2014 Budget that was presented on November 21st by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Third Reading of the debate on the 2014 Budget took place for a period of 16 days from December 2nd to December 20th and today is the last day of the allotted days for the Committee Stage Debate.

The third reading vote will be taken this evening at 6 p.m.

The second reading debate on the 2014 Budget was held from November 22nd to the 29th and the vote was taken on the final day.

The second reading of the 2014 Budget was passed with a majority of 99 votes. In the division that was taken, 154 votes were cast in favor while 55 votes were against it.

The main opposition United National Party (UNP) and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) voted against the budget at the second reading while the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) boycotted the vote.
