Dec 18, Colombo: The government of Sri Lanka says that the Western and Southern Provincial Councils will be dissolved shortly and elections will be called for them.
General Secretary of the governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Minister Susil Premajayantha told parliament that the Western and Southern Provincial Councils will be dissolved within the next two or three weeks.
He also challenged the opposition political parties to defeat the governing party and win these provincial council elections.
The terms of the Western and Southern Provincial Councils come to an end in April next year.
However, political sources say the councils will be dissolved in the first week of January 2014 and elections will be held in early March.
