* Leadership Council of Sri Lanka opposition party convenes

Dec 17, Colombo: The Leadership Council of Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party (UNP) convened today to discuss the future directions of the party and measures to prepare the party to face the upcoming provincial council elections next year.

The Leadership Council chaired by MP Karu Jayasuriya was expected to assess all the party organizer positions for the year 2014 and appoint organizers for the year in January.

The Council chairman has extended a special invitation to the senior leader MP Sajith Premadasa to take part in the council session today to resolve the issues he has with the Leadership Council.

Premadasa who was once of the 9 members appointed to the Council has refused his membership opposing the member selection procedure.

The Council also invited MP Thalatha Atukorale, who also refused the membership along with Premadasa, to attend today's meeting.

The Council was also expected to discuss decisions to be taken at the party general assembly on 21st of this month.
