Sun, Dec 15, 2013, 09:33 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka will seize any fishing vessel that violates international maritime laws and intruding into country's territorial waters, the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

The fishermen who operate the boats will be dealt with the international law, the Minister said at a discussion held at his ministry Saturday.

He also noted that 191 Sri Lankan fishermen and 36 boats are in India's custody.

The Minister said that their release from Indian custody has however, been delayed due to the influence of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The Minister earlier said that he will be visiting New Delhi next month on an invitation from India's External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid to hold discussions on the fishermen's issue with India's Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar.

However, the dates have not yet been finalized for the visit.
