* Sri Lanka police vow to arrest all connected to the largest heroin haul
Sat, Dec 14, 2013, 11:19 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said today that all the people linked to the smuggling of a massive haul of heroin will be arrested.

Sri Lanka Custom officials in August this year raided a container brought from Pakistan and seized 130 kilograms of heroin hidden in cans of lubricants. The stock of heroin was the largest ever haul in Sri Lanka and reportedly worth over Rs. 1 billion in street value.

A coordinating secretary attached to a ministry under the Sri Lankan Prime Minister was recently removed from his post on allegations that he provided an official letter to the Customs requesting a tax exemption for the container on a behalf of an acquaintance.

However, it is not revealed whether the official had any knowledge of the contents of the container or whether he has any links to the heroin haul.

The police spokesman said that the investigations were underway to ascertain if the letter had been issued with the knowledge of the contents in the container.

The spokesman further added that police would definitely arrest all the elements linked to the smuggling of the drug haul.
