Dec 14, Colombo: An Ally of Sri Lanka's governing party, the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) calling for a police investigation into the largest haul of heroin that was confiscated by the Customs Department in August.

JHU Leader, Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said that he has written to the IGP calling on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

At least 131 kilo grams of heroin hidden in cans packed into a container, which is supposedly contained lubricants and sent from the Pakistani port of Karachi, was seized on August 30th.

The JHU Leader said that a proper investigation would reveal the person responsible for the importing of the heroin.

According to Ven. Sobitha Thero, investigations into serious matters are carried out at snail pace although they should be carried out with much vigor and enthusiasm.
