* Sri Lankan migrant workers required to register at the Foreign Employment Bureau from next year
Tue, Dec 10, 2013, 01:26 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 10, Colombo: Sri Lankan migrant workers from January 2014 will be required to register at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) prior to their departure.

Under the current regulations, migrant workers have to register themselves at the Katunayake International Airport prior to their departure.

Deputy General Manager of the SlFEB, Mangala Randeniya said that it would be compulsory for migrant workers to register with the Bureau from January 2014.

He explained to the local media that the Bureau would carry out a thorough check on the agreements and other relevant details regarding the intended destination of the workers as the registration at the airport does not provide the time and facility to conduct a thorough check on documents.

According to Randeniya, migrant workers who do not have their documents in order will not be permitted to leave the country.
