* Sri Lanka Democratic Party leader denies reports of plans to join the government
Tue, Dec 10, 2013, 01:10 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 10, Colombo: The former army commander turned politician and the leader of the Democratic Party, Sarath Fonseka has denied reports that he was planning on joining the government.

Several media reports in the past few days said that Fonseka was planning to join the government early next year.

However, addressing a public meeting in Pasyala, Fonseka said that he had no intention of joining the government and that he would support any force that comes forward to defeat the government.

He noted that rumors of him joining the government were conspiracies by his detractors.

Fonseka added that regardless of the difficulties he would have to face in his political career, he would never join the government.

The Democratic Party came into the third position with the votes polled at the last Central and North Western Provincial Council election in September.
