Dec 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Government Analyst has planned to conduct the DNA tests needed for the judiciary proceedings locally by the public sector.
The Ministry of Justice hopes to save a large sum of public money through this measure.
Minister of Justice Rauf Hakeem told parliament Saturday that the Department of Government Analyst had obtained the needed technology and the DNA tests would be conducted from January 2014 at the new premises of the Department at Battaramulla.
DNA reports are summoned for civil and criminal cases by Sri Lankan courts and they have become a must to resolve certain criminal cases.
So far, the government obtained the services of DNA tests from the private sector.
