Dec 09, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa will leave for South Africa tomorrow pay respects to the former South African President Nelson Mandela, the Government Information Department said.

Following his visit to South Africa the President is scheduled to visit Kenya.

Foreign media reported that the South Africa is readying itself for the arrival of a large number of world leaders for the funeral and memorial services for Mandela, who died Thursday at the age of 95 in his home outside Johannesburg after a long illness.

Mandela, the Nobel peace prize laureate, ended the apartheid and became the first black President in South Africa.

The state funeral and burial for Mandela will be held in his rural hometown of Qunu in the Eastern Cape Province on Sunday December 15.
