* Sri Lankan President to attend late South African leader's funeral

Dec 08, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa will travel to South Africa next week to pay respects to the former South African President Nelson Mandela, state media reported.

External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris will accompany the President to South Africa for the funeral of Mandela after a pre-planned official visit to Kenya from December 10 to 14, according to official sources.

Foreign media reported that the South Africa is readying itself for the arrival of a flood of world leaders for the funeral and memorial services for Mandela who died Thursday at the age of 95 in his home outside Johannesburg after a long illness.

The state funeral and burial for the Nobel peace prize laureate will be held in his rural hometown of Qunu in the Eastern Cape Province on Sunday Dec. 15.
