* Sri Lanka Tamil party says the government has connections with the LTTE, not the party
Wed, Dec 4, 2013, 10:48 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka's major Tamil political party, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says that it is the government and not the party that has connections with the LTTE.

TNA Leader R. Sampanthan told parliament that Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP, who was LTTE's arm procurer and the international wing leader, is now with the government and does not have any connection with the TNA.

The TNA Leader speaking of the plight of the people in North, called on the government to ensure that girls and women in the Northern Province be protected from being sexually abused.

Sampanthan pointed out that the military is engaged in many activities in the North from agriculture to fisheries, but attention should be paid to the safety of women in the areas.

According to the Tamil MP, people in the North are faced with problems due to the presence of military personnel in civilian areas.
