* Sri Lankan Buddhist organization says private universities will benefit the country
Tue, Dec 3, 2013, 10:23 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 03, Colombo: An extreme Buddhist organization in Sri Lanka, the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) says the private universities would benefit the country.

BBS General Secretary, Ven. Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thero has said that the establishment of private universities in the country will prevent Sri Lankans from taking their monies overseas.

He explained that private universities in Sri Lanka will help students and their parents since they won't have to spend millions of rupees for overseas education.

Noting that certain parties like the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and organizations opposed the setting up of private universities due to their personal agendas, Gnanasara Thero pointed out that most of the time students who go overseas for studies do not return to their home, which is a loss to their families and the country.

The BBS said that the organization plans to initiate public forums throughout the country to gather people's opinion on the country's education system and prepare a set of proposals that would be handed over to the Education Ministry.
