Aug 31, Colombo: Transport authorities in Sri Lanka are planning to hold discussions with private bus owners to discuss a bus fare hike of 7.5 percent.
Local media reports have quoted sources as saying that the transport authorities and the private bus owners have agreed to increase bus fares after the provincial council elections.
Chairman of the National Transport Commission (NTC), Roshan Gunawardena has requested associations of private bus owners for a further discussion on the matter.
Private bus owners have demanded the transport authorities to increase bus fares by 10 percent.
However, private bus owners have said that they have doubts over the 7.5 percent bus fare increase since there is a likelihood of a fuel price revision after the provincial council elections as well.
