Aug 27, Colombo: The Government of Japan will award scholarships to Sri Lankan students to pursue studies in Japanese Universities and Colleges for 2014 under the Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship scheme.
Under this scheme students may apply for College of Technology, Undergraduate or Post Graduate Research scholarships.
Clarifying the process of student selection, the Japanese Embassy in Colombo said in Sri Lanka the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho scholarship is channeled through the Ministry of Higher Education, at Ward Place in Colombo.
The Ministry of Higher Education advertises the scholarship and invites applications from prospective candidates from Sri Lanka. The Ministry will screen the applications and forward a list of eligible candidates to the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka.
Selected candidates will be requested to sit for a qualifying examination in Sri Lanka conducted by the Japanese Embassy and the selected candidates will then be invited for a personal interview by the Embassy.
Candidates who pass the written examination and are successful at the interview would be recommended by the Embassy of Japan to the relevant authority in Japan for due consideration.
The Embassy clarified that final selection and awarding of the scholarship is made by the relevant authorities in Japan.
