Aug 25, Nanjing: As the curtain came down on 2013 Asian Youth Games Saturday night in Nanjing, China, Sri Lanka officially became the host for the 2017 games.
The one-hour closing ceremony at the second edition of the games in Nanjing came to a conclusion with the traditional hand-over of the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to a delegation from Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka's developing commercial hub, Hambantota in the South will be hosting the third edition of Asian Youth Games in 2017. The games will be held at the Hambantota Sports Complex that is yet to be built.
Asian Olympic Committee organizes the multi-sport international event that is held in every four years and participated by 44 nations.
Sri Lanka also bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Hambantota but lost to Gold Coast, Australia.
