Aug 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Army's third annual Defence Seminar will be held from September 3 - 5, 2013 at Galadari Hotel in Colombo.
This year the seminar, themed on "Post-Conflict Sri Lanka: Challenges and Regional Stability" will share and discuss a wide range of issues in the context of both regional and global scenario.
The three-day meeting will focus on Post-Conflict Reconstruction, Social Integration, Reconciliation, and Regional Stability and will seek possibilities of strengthening regional stability further in a global perspective, according to the Army.
The organizers said by Wednesday (21), more than 22 foreign delegates have confirmed their participation in the sessions, in addition to the participation of India-based Defence Attachès, Sri Lanka-based diplomats and Defence Attachès.
Over eight guest speakers representing China, Bangladesh, India, Germany, Pakistan and Vietnam have assured their contribution to the seminar.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Minister of External Affairs, Prof G.L Peiris, Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, and tri-service Commanders will also present their views at the inaugural ceremony and during three-day long sessions.
The third successive Defence Seminar is guaranteed to offer a wide scope of thought-provoking and lively interactive sessions on concerns of national, regional and international importance while enlarging the scope of discourse from post-conflict development and regional stability in an open setting, according to the organizers.
The Army held the inaugural Defence Seminar-2011 on the theme 'Defeating Terrorism-Sri Lankan Experience' in May last year with the participation of representatives from more than 41 countries.
Defence Seminar-2012 held on the theme 'Towards Lasting Peace and Stability', focused on the post-war 5Rs - Rehabilitation, Re-integration, Re-construction, Resettlement and Reconciliation.
