Aug 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Gampaha District parliamentarian Ruwan Wijewardena has called on the government to listen to the people.
Wijewardena said in parliament that the government should listen to the people and address the issues faced by them.
Speaking during an adjournment debate in parliament last evening on the protest and the shooting incident in Weliweriya, the parliamentarian observed that the protest in Rathupaswala was not initiated by any political party.
He said that it was a protest by the people of the area who were seeking redress for an injustice that was being done to them and it was not a protest initiated by the SLFP, UNP or JVP.
"It was a people's protest," Wijewardena noted.
According to him, there was still no solution to the water problem faced by the people in the area despite the protest.
