Aug 21, Kandy: The grand religious festival of Esala Perahera in Sri Lanka came to a successful end today (21) with the water cutting ceremony and the presentation of the Sannasa to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to the traditional customs, Custodian of the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa, Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bndara, along with the Basnayake Nilames of the four Hindu Temples (Dewales), officially presented the 'Sannasa', the traditional communication of successful conclusion of the Kandy Esala Perahera, to the Head of State, President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's House in Kandy today.
The final Randoli Perahara paraded the streets of Kandy last night.
This year the event was made especially notable by the attendance of the visiting Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand and Japan's Princess Tsuguko of Takamado viewing the pageant along with the President and the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
The President also recognized the artists and performers who took part in the Perahara today.
Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and President's Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath were also present.
