Aug 20, Nuwara Eliya: Intensifying the clash between the Nuwara Eliya district candidates of the constituent parties of the same ruling coalition, United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) of Sri Lanka, an electoral office of the Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) was attacked this morning.
CWC suspects the National Workers' Union (NWU) led by MP P. Digambaram is behind the attack.
An office of the NWU was attacked by the suspected supporters of CWC last night.
Kotagala organizer of the NWU was stabbed in a clash between supporters of CWC and NWU, at Commercial Junction in Kotagala yesterday (August 19).
Reportedly, a convoy of Digambaram came under attack by the CWC supporters. Several individuals were injured and 14 vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
Security has been intensified in Hatton, Kotagala and Bogawanthalawa areas where the clashes occurred, police said.
