Aug 19, Colombo: One person was injured and hospitalized today in Nuwara Eliya district as two constituent parties of the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) clashed amidst election campaigns.
Kotagala organizer of the National Workers Union (NWU) has been stabbed in Hatton Town in a clash between supporters of Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) and NWU, at Commercial Junction, Kotagala today (August 19), says Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE).
Reportedly, 14 vehicles have been damaged and several individuals have been injured.
MP P. Digambaram leads NWU while Minister Arumugam Thondaman leads CWC.
CaFFE observes say this is the most serious election related instance of violence in Nuwara Eliya.
