Aug 19, Colombo: Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand arrived in Sri Lanka Monday on a four-day visit at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
During her visit to the island, Princess Sirindhorn will observe various activities and visit places of religious, historical and cultural importance such as the National Museum, a historical park and monasteries, the Bureau of the Royal Household said in an announcement.
She is scheduled to tour Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Peradeniya Botanical garden and Nuwara Eliya areas. Ministry of cultural affairs has organized several cultural events in Colombo today for the Princess's participation.
The Thai Princess is scheduled to meet President Rajapaksa on August 20, 2013. The President will host a banquet at the President's House in Kandy in the Princess's honor.
The Princess's visit comes at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 260th anniversary of the establishment of the Siam Maha Nikaya in Sri Lanka, the Bureau of the Royal Household said.
Following the conclusion of Sri Lanka visit, the Princess is scheduled to depart for Maldives.
Meanwhile, Japan's Princess Tsuguko of Takamado is also scheduled to arrive in the island on Monday for a four-day visit from August 19th to 23rd at the invitation of the President.
During her stay in the island Princess Tsuguko will visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy and the Sri Maha Bodhi at Anuradhapura. She will also meet with the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Nilanga Dela and will have the opportunity to view the Sri Dalada Perahara.
She will also pay a courtesy call on President Rajapaksa at the President's House in Kandy.
