Aug 15, Colombo: Hasan Ali, General Secretary of Sri Lanka's major Muslim party, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), said the party had sacked five party activists due to disobeying party decisions.
The five members of the SLMC executive committee have rebelled against the party's decision to contest the Northern, Central and North Western Provincial Council elections separately without allying with other parties.
SLMC is of the view that they cannot win the due representation if they contest allying with other parties.
However, these SLMC members have gone against the party decision and they are contesting the elections under ruling United People's Freedom Alliance banner.
The five members sacked are S.K.S. Muthajith, A.L. Ilham, M.H.M. Najath, S.H.A. Careem and S.A. Yehiya, the SLMC executive committee announced.
