* Sri Lanka ruling party considers three people for Chief Minister position of Northern PC
Sun, May 5, 2013, 12:23 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka government sources say that three names of prominent figures are being considered by the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) as the party's Chief Minister candidate for the Northern Provincial Council.

The leader of the Eelam People's Democratic Party and Minister of Traditional Industries & Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, the former international leader of the terrorist outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Kumaran Pathmanathan and the former LTTE media spokesman Velayutham Dayanithi aka Daya Master.

Douglas Devananda and Velayutham Dayanithi have already confirmed their candidature but Pathmanathan, who is wanted by India for questioning about the killing of former Indian Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi, has not so far expressed his opinion.

Sources say there is a likelihood of UPFA going to election with and open end competition for the Chief Minister position as it did in some other Provincial Councils.
