Mar 18, Colombo: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has arrested five Sri Lankan fishermen for allegedly fishing in Indian waters and seized their mechanized boat on Sunday.
The detained fishermen will be produced at the Thermal Police Station here on Monday morning, ICG commandant Anand Kumar has said.
Meanwhile, the 34 Indian fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan Navy for illegally fishing near Sri Lanka's Katchatheevu Island and released Friday (March 15) have returned to Tamil Nadu.
Following the order from the court to release the fishermen, the Navy had taken them to the International Maritime Boundary Line and handed over to the ICG along with their 5 trawlers.
Another 19 fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy last Wednesday and handed over to Thalaimannar police are still in custody.
