Mar 17, Colombo: The forensic report on the skeletons unearthed from the mass grave at Matale in Sri Lanka's Central Province will be handed over to court this week, an official said.
Prof. Raj Somadeva of the Archeology Department at the Kelaniya University said the report will be handed to court on Tuesday.
He noted that the report has been completed following research carried out for a period of three months.
The mass grave was uncovered last November when the ground behind the Matale Hospital was dug to construct a new building.
According to the Consultant Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of Matale Dr. Ajith Jayasena, skeletal remains of 154 people were found during excavations carried out from the 26th of November until the 12th of this month at the grave site in the premises of the Matale Hospital.
It is believed that the skeletons from the Matale mass grave were of insurgents from the Marxist party JVP killed during the 1988-89 violence.
