Mar 17, Colombo: Former Army Commander of Sri Lanka Sarath Fonseka says the Human Rights Commission (HRC) has called upon the Elections Commissioner to register his party according to the normal procedures.
Fonseka had petitioned the HRC claiming there was an unusual delay in registering his party for which documents had first been handed over to the Elections Department in 2010.
The former Army Commander has said that he had met the Elections Commissioner following the HRC verdict.
According to Fonseka, nominees from his party would contest the forthcoming provincial council elections once the party is registered.
Fonseka was elected to parliament following the 2010 general election after he unsuccessfully contested the 2010 Presidential election. However, he lost his parliamentary seat after a court martial found him guilty.
