* Sri Lanka Marxist party denies rumors of joining an alliance with the UNP and former President Kumaratunga
Sun, Mar 17, 2013, 04:54 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the party would not join any alliance that would be formed by the main opposition United National Party (UNP) with former President Chandrika Kumaratunga.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva says such rumors are circulated by bankrupt political parties.

He observed that the reason for making statements about the JVP joining a certain political alliance was to cover the true alliance between the UNP leadership and the government.

Reiterating the party stance, Silva said the party would not join any political alliance with the UNP that had created the groundwork for the destruction of the country.

According to Silva, the JVP is currently engaged in forming an alliance of the masses with trade unions, intellectuals, professionals and the civil society to bring about a change in the current system.
