Mar 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has received petitions against 11 bills that were submitted to parliament for approval before the end of this month.
The Supreme Court has received 15 petitions challenging the constitutionality of 11 bills that were tabled in parliament on March 8th.
The bills are aimed amending existing laws, mainly on tax and finances, and are to be passed in parliament before March 31st.
Some of the bills that are being challenged are the Strategic Development Projects Amendment Bill, Betting and Gaming Levy Amendment Bill, NBT Amendment Bill, Fiscal Management Responsibility Amendment Bill, VAT Amendment Bill, Inland Revenue Amendment Bill, Notaries Amendment Bill, Power of Attorneys Amendment Bill, Registration of Documents Amendment Bill and Tax Appeals Commission Amendment Bill.
