Mar 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) complained that the government did not give adequate time for legislators to study 21 bills that were presented to parliament for passage before the end of the month.
UNP parliamentarian, Dr. Harsha de Silva has said the parliamentarians were informed of the consultative committee meeting to discuss the 21 bills less than 24 hours before they were taken up in the House.
He has explained that the parliamentary staff had hurriedly visited the homes of the parliamentarians to inform of the consultative committee meeting scheduled in less than 24 hours.
As a result the opposition legislators have not had sufficient time to effectively study and discuss the bills Dr. de Silva said.
