Mar 14, Colombo: The government of Sri Lanka plans to introduce a special education programme for juvenile inmates.

The proposed programme will include an education programme that would conclude with a university degree course for the inmates.

Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera has said at an event at the Vavuniya Prison that the Ministry was engaged in making the initial preparations for the programme.

He has explained that the new programme would open up new opportunities for the juvenile inmates once they pass the GCE Advanced Level examination.

According to Gajadeera, Sri Lanka is the only country that offers such educational programs for juvenile inmates.
