Sun, Mar 10, 2013, 11:38 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 10, Colombo: The Colombo High Court on Monday will consider the bail application filed on behalf of Sri Lanka ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who is a suspect of the murder of Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others.

MP Silva's father A. Vincent Premalal Silva filed the bail application in the Colombo High Court seeking his release.

The MP who returned to the country on last Tuesday (March 05) was taken into custody by the police at a private hospital where he was admitted following his arrival.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Sadun Vithana ordered the Police to remand Silva until 14th March.

Silva returned from Singapore where he received treatment for gunshot injuries sustained during a clash on October 8, 2011 that resulted in the death of 4 persons. Silva and 13 other suspects have been charged with the killings.

In the bail application MP Silva's father said Duminda is still recovering after undergoing brain surgery and needs to be in a germ-free environment.

The petitioner has said in his bail application that his son would not be a threat to witnesses if he was released on bail. The accused has received intensive neurological rehabilitation, speech therapy and occupational therapy at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
