Mar 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka major opposition United National Party (UNP) MP Lakshman Kiriella said today at a press briefing held in Colombo that the UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has always been in the position that Tamil Nadu is more important to Sri Lanka than New Delhi.
He blamed the government for breaking up the good relations with Southern India.
Instead, the MP said, that the UNP governments had good rapport with the South India and the government heads visited there and held talks with the leaders there.
Kiriella said that the government's moves tarnish the image of the country. In the context India does not support Sri Lanka, the country cannot expect the support of the Europe at all, he said.
Kiriella argued that the causes behind the situation are the government's failure to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission and to implement power devolution as it promised.
