* Sri Lanka to mark International Women's Day today

Mar 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka will mark the International Women's Day today with events organized all over the island marking the economic, political and social achievements of women.

The main event of the day will be held under the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

Child Development and Women's Affairs Ministry has organized the main event under this year's theme "Protect her who protects the family".

This theme has been selected to pay gratitude to the mothers who protect and safeguard the family dedicating their lives to uplift the family economy.

At today's event at the Temple Trees the First Lady will felicitate 15 women who have been serving the country in various fields and contributing for the improvement of women and children.

There will be hundreds of regional events held at district secretariat basis to mark the day in line with the national event.
