Mar 06, Geneva: Sri Lanka Wednesday told the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that it considers all allegations of disappearances seriously and has taken multiple initiatives to address these allegations.
Delivering a statement at the Clustered ID - Disappearances and Belief at the 22nd Regular Session Human Rights Council in Geneva today Sri Lanka's representative Manisha Gunasekera said Sri Lanka has strengthened the state's institutional framework to deal with all aspects of disappearances.
The Sri Lankan government has established and inter-agency working group comprising representatives of the ministries of Defence and External Affairs, and the Attorney General's Office to clarify cases of alleged disappearances brought to its attention by the working group and to take necessary follow-up actions.
The representative reiterated Sri Lanka's commitment to work with the Working Group and Special Rapporteur on the allegations of disappearances.
