Thu, Mar 7, 2013, 12:22 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka has sent two ruling party representatives to attend the funeral of the late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.

Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing & Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa and Deputy Minister of External Affairs Neomal Perera will represent Sri Lanka at Chavez's funeral.

The two ministers have left the country for Caracas today, the government information unit said.

Chavez lost the battle with cancer Tuesday in Caracas at age 58, two years after he was first diagnosed.

Sri Lankan President, an admirer of the Venezuelan leader, met him in Tripoli at the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Libyan revolution in 2009.
