Mar 06, Colombo: Environmentalists and activists in Sri Lanka have commenced agitating against the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Hundreds of activists of the environmentalist group Greens4change held a protest in front of the Indian High Commission, against the nuclear power plant.
The environmentalists demanded India to stop building the nuclear power plant to protect the people and environment.
Holding banners that read, "Millions of lives are in danger - Stop Kudankulam nuke plant," the group charged that there is a uranium leak from the nuclear plant placing both Sri Lankans and South Indians in danger.
Indian media reports recently said that the atomic power plant had been leaking radiation since Feb. 27.
Indian High Commission in Colombo recently assured that there has been no radiation leak at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
The environmentalists group called on the Sri Lankan Government to immediately look into the issue.
