Mar 06, Colombo: Flydubai, Dubai's budget airline has become the second airline to operate flights to Sri Lanka's newly built Hambantota International Airport in Mattala.
The Dubai-based low cost carrier plans to operate three weekly flights to Mattala airport from Dubai airport. Dubai, Colombo, Mattala, Dubai flights are to commence from this month.
Their flight schedule will be announced shortly, Sri Lanka Airport and Aviation Authority sources said.
The flights bound for Mattala from Dubai, will also touch down in the Bandaranaike International Airport, in Katunayake. However the return flights directly fly to Dubai from Mattala.
UAE based Air Arabia has also planned to operate two weekly flights direct to Mattala from Dubai.
According to Aviation Authority sources both airline have been given five-year incentive package by the Mattala airport. The incentive package includes concessions granted on areas such as ground handling, loading and parking.
