Mar 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent of ruling alliance has decided to strengthen the party in the Northern Province along with the government's plan to hold Northern Province Council Elections this year.
As a measure to strengthen the party, the SLFP is preparing to appoint party organizers in the Province and has called applications for the organizer posts in the Northern Province and also in some electorates in the Eastern province, the government media unit reported.
According to the General Secretary of the SLFP, Minister Maithripala Sirisena, the party has decided to call for applications to fill the vacancies of organizer posts in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna, Kankasanthurai, Kayts, Kilinochchi, Kopai, Manipay, Nallur, Pt. Pedro, Udippidi and Vaddukkodai in Jaffna, , Mannar and Kilinochchi electoral districts in Northern Province and Batticaloa electoral district and Kalkudha electoral district in the Eastern province.
The government has said that election for the Northern Provincial Council, which currently does not have an elected administration system, will be held by September 2013.
It would be the first time provincial council elections would be held in the North after the provincial council system was introduced in 1987 following the Indo-Lanka Accord.
