Mar 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka police had to resort to use tear gas to disperse the mobs clashed at a cricket match between two prestigious boys' schools in the capital Colombo today.
A clash erupted today at the island's most attractive inter school annual cricket encounter between Ananda College and Nalanda College of Colombo played at Sinhala Sports Club grounds.
Police media spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardena said that around 1,000 persons including past pupils clashed at the big match for a long time until police used tear gas to disperse the mobs.
The Police said the situation was controlled and the police security was enhanced.
The Police announced yesterday special security measures will be implemented and action will be taken against students and other groups who inconvenience the public during the big match season.
Nalanda batting first yesterday scored 298 for five wickets. Ananda replying strongly was 271 for four wickets by the tea time in the second day today.
