Mar 02, Colombo: A cricket association official has filed an objection against the nomination of incumbent president Upali Dharmadasa to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) presidency.

The objection has been filed by Ervin Jayawardana of Kurunegala District Cricket Association who has filed nominations for the post of Vice Treasurer of SLC.

He has cited that the Dharmadasa's nomination is invalid since he had not played first class cricket. He has not obtained the approval of the Minister of Sports for his nomination.

Dharmadasa, a former president of SLC was elected unopposed at the elections last year to head the cash-strapped cricket governing body of Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Sports is expected to take a decision whether to accept Dharmadasa's nomination on Monday.

Dharmadasa announced earlier he would not contest for the post again but his brother Jayantha Dharmadasa would contest. However, the incumbent president submitted nomination for the post at the last minute.
