Mar 02, Colombo: The powerful doctors' union in Sri Lanka, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has dissolved its branch at the country's main national hospital in Colombo with immediate effect.
The media spokesperson of the GMOA, Dr. Naveen de Zoysa said that the decision was taken by the GMOA central committee which met Friday night.
Dr. De Soyza said the decision was taken after some doctors of the GMOA at the Colombo National Hospital branch in violation of laws of the association had initiated a strike without the permission of the main branch.
The Doctors of the main government hospital were to hold a 24-hour strike Friday demanding solutions to the irregularities in annual transfers.
Meanwhile, a special meeting of the GMOA is due to be held tomorrow in order to discuss the future course of association following the dissolution of the Colombo National Hospital branch.
