The Union minister of state in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V. Narayanasamy has told reporters today that the central government of India is closely monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka and will take all steps for the safety of Tamils in the island.

"India was closely monitoring the situation over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue in the Island Nation and was taking all steps for their safety," the Minister has been quoted in Indian media.
