Mar 01, Colombo: Doctors of Sri Lanka's main government hospital will hold a 24 hour strike today demanding solutions to the irregularities in annual transfers.
The powerful doctors' union, Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has said that over a thousand doctors attached to the Colombo National Hospital will be engaged in the strike action.
The strike is to commence at 8 a.m. and continue till 8 a.m. tomorrow and only doctors at the Colombo National Hospital will participate in it.
The GMOA has stated that doctors apply for transfers according to vacancies advertised by the Health Ministry.
However, doctors are irked this time around due to the Health Ministry's failure to publicize the existing vacancies for them to apply.
According to the GMOA, doctors in other state hospitals would also join the trade union action depending on the government's response.
