Mar 01, Colombo: Three wheeler drivers in Sri Lanka have threatened to launch a strike action demanding solutions to problems faced by them.
The All Island Three-Wheeler Drivers' Union (AITWDU) has said that the only option left for them was to strike and agitate.
Head of the union, Lalith Dharmasekera has said the government has failed to implement the assurances given to three wheeler drivers in the Mahinda Chintana policy statement.
Dharmasekera explained that the government had promised social security to the three wheeler drivers, special tax concessions and a regulation by which air pollution would be monitored and controlled.
But none of these have been implemented by the government, he noted.
According to Dharmasekera, the union would launch poster campaigns, fasts, and protest campaigns from next week if the government fails to address their issues.
