* Sri Lankan movement expresses concern over issues faced by the Tamil people in the North
Fri, Jun 28, 2013, 05:09 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 28, Colombo: People's Wall of Comradeship (PWC), a movement backed by Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), says that issues faced by the Tamil people in the North have not been solved.

Co-convener of PWC, Sunil Handunnetti said that while many are discussing about the 13th Amendment, little or nothing has been done to solve the long standing issues faced by the Tamil people in the North.

He observed that some people are demanding for more powers under the 13th Amendment while the others are opposing it, and those who support the Police and Land powers issue in the 13th Amendment only want to control northern people just as the rest without solving their problems.

"There are more serious problems in the North that need to be addressed rather than the 13th Amendment," Handunnetti said.

He accused the government of constructing military camps in the Northern Province and focusing on militarization instead of establishing democracy in the region.
