* Sri Lanka poverty alleviation program officers being incorporated into new Divi Neguma Department

Jan 25, Colombo: Officers of Sri Lanka's poverty alleviation program, Samurdhi Authority are being integrated to the Divi Neguma Department recently established by the Divi Neguma Development Act.

The Sri Lankan government established the new department by combining several currently existing poverty alleviation agencies to better achieve the grassroots economic development and alleviate poverty in the country.

The new Department amalgamates the Samurdhi Authority, Southern Development Authority and the Udarata Development Authority.

Director General of Samurdhi R.P.B. Thlakasiri said that the necessary documents of the permanent employees of the Samurdhi authority are being filed currently to integrate them into the new department in three phases.

According to the Director General officers of the Samurdhi authority are being integrated to the public service by the Divi Neguma Department within only three months.

Officials of the other two agencies, Southern Development Authority and the Udarata Development Authority will also have the opportunity to come under the Divi Neguma Department and be eligible for all government benefits including pensions, the Director General said.
