Jan 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Ministry of Postal Services says that the Postal Department will completely discontinue the telegram service in February.

The loss making age old telegram service is run jointly by the Department of Postal Services and the Sri Lanka Telecom.

Sources say that the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has not so far issued the license for the telegram service for the year 2013.

Telegrams have become unpopular with the modern technology and the service is mostly used by public servants in reporting sick and other legal matters for which proof of delivery is necessary.
